Marriott International, a leading global lodging company, built a new $600 million global headquarters in Bethesda, Maryland. Marriott is the sole tenant in the new complex, featuring a 22-story office building for Marriott’s 3,500-employee headquarters and a flagship hotel with at least 230 rooms. Waveguide provided audiovisual, information technology and acoustical consulting and design throughout the 750,000-square-foot headquarters, which includes offices, a learning center, fitness center, child care center, terraces and additional amenities areas. The headquarters contains nearly 400 AV-enabled spaces.
In addition to providing technology design services, Waveguide, in conjunction with The Clarient Group, serves as Marriott’s Smart Building consultant. The team worked with Marriott to develop a clear vision of an effective Smart Building and then served as project managers to implement and integrate multiple building systems to create a seamless user experience for employees and guests in the building. Using a mobile app, Marriott employees have single-source access to a personal digital folio that combines wayfinding, ordering, occupancy sensing, room reservations, visitor management, parking and storage and delivery.
